This Century Plant/Agave was about 8' tall, and a grandiose vision of a cactus! Her leaves a good 10" wide and waving all over like an octopus. Lighting was delicate, and she took my breath away. Sadly, at the 10 year mark of life, a Century Plant sprouts an enormous tree, which begins to suck the life out of its existence, dying a slow death thereafter. I remember when I went back a couple years later where this beauty resided in front of the Big Sur Bakery. She had sprouted her tree, the base was deteriorating into a near to be end. I was devastated to see such a proud and majestic friend, breaking down. I am honored to have taken her portrait in her prime.
Windy Osborn was first published in the early 70s at age 14, shooting bicycle motocross. She worked for Wizard Publications, Inc. for 17 years shooting for BMX Action Magazine, Freestylin' Magazine and Homeboy Magazine, and developed a craft and style that made her mark as a cutting edge photographer, being the only professional female photographer in the industry of bicycle motocross, freestyle and skateboarding. Windy has been honored for her historic contributions to the sport of bicycle motocross with an induction into the National BMX Hall of Fame at the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California, in 2012.
